HOT•BED was born in the summer of 2017 as a creative venture between Philadelphia-based artist & gallerist, James Oliver, and horticulturist visionary, Bryan Hoffman. Bridging James Oliver’s eye for contemporary art and Bryan Hoffman of Hoffman Design Group's passion for biophilia, HOT•BED takes a fresh look at the relationship between contemporary art and nature. The ultra-collaborative space is comprised of a gallery, lounge, and series of artist studios.
We host 6-8 exhibits per year, where visitors can immerse themselves in a full sensory experience; not only is the art for sale but the plants and furniture are too. HOT•BED has hosted works by Lyn Godley, Kurt Herrmann, Rebecca Saylor Sack, Hisako Kobayashi, Emily White, Ian Shiver, M.K. Komins, Tomiya Nishimura and Elizabeth Bergeland, to name a few. HOT•BED often breaks the rules. We are building a space that questions everything.
Almost more important than who we show, however, is the connection that is built between those in the gallery’s orbit. From our studio members to event guests to curiosity seekers who see our sign and drop in, the community we’ve built constantly learns from and grows with one another. If you’re looking to add vibrancy to your home or office environment, drop us a line. We’re happy to consult on both art and horticultural elements. The gallery and lounge are available to rent for weddings, showers, product launch parties, workshops, pop-up art exhibits, etc. for clients who want the sophistication of a gallery environment without the stuffiness.
We are an incubator of new ideas and inclusive for people of all ages, incomes, and social standings. Come see for yourself.
