SUSAN E BARRETT

My paintings are reimaginings of my accumulated memories and observations. In our contemporary experience we are bombarded with a barrage of images. I work from this montage of imagery--snapshots mitigated by memory and the light that illuminates it all. Though I operate out of an American Realist tradition I also draw upon a broad set of aesthetic inventions.
For years I have been taking photographic notes and collecting imagery that serves as a library to draw upon when creating paintings. I weave together images from different sources, often intertwining multiple perspectives of the same place. This conversation between imagery is at the center of my work.
