JUNA SKENDERI

I am American in every sense, except legally. It has been 23 years since I have been back home to Albania and I have spent this time trying to connect to a culture I barely remember. The repetitive, meticulous motions of embroidery and weaving, have been necessary tools for me as an undocumented American. I am interested in the ways that the things we make are connected to history, migration and women’s roles in society. The evolution of craft work, homemaking and survival raise a lot of questions for me. I want to learn from our ancestors, and to find ways of connecting to where I come from.
