JAYNIE CRIMMINS

Jaynie Gillman Crimmins, a Brooklyn based artist, is interested in creating alternative narratives from quotidian materials. Working with the promotional mailings she receives, most of which are difficult to recycle because the inks have high concentrations of heavy metals, she reconfigures the ordinary and overlooked aspects of our daily existence. Her intimate pieces use an economy of means and restraint of process, inspired and influenced by Ruth Asawa’s practice and work and her grandmother’s rag rugs.

Crimmins’ work has been exhibited at SPRING/BREAK Art Show; the Governor’s Island Art Fair; Zuckerman Museum, Kennesaw State University, GA and the National Museum of Romanian Literature in Bucharest. In 2019, her work will be shown at ART on PAPER with K. Imperial Fine Art, Project ARTspace, NYC; Hunterdon Art Museum, NJ and the Hamden Gallery at the University of Massachusetts.

She has a long history of community work, currently volunteering in the Guggenheim Museum’s Learning Through Art Program. Crimmins holds two degrees in Art Education - a BS from the State University College at Buffalo and MS from the College of New Rochelle, with a minor in Art Therapy.
