My paintings are the result of storytelling, and the lack of completion from stories that may never be fully told. These voyeuristic scenes of human and animal figures, as well as haunting interiors and landscapes, convey intimacy and spectatorship while maintaining a sense of emptiness. Most recently I have been interested in the narrative of places and have been working from images I have found while living in the South.
Short stories often take on the task of exploring multiple narrators. My paintings carry out the same investigation by aligning themselves through the point of view of different spectators. I wonder what can happen to narratives based on these various points of view. My work is both personal and objective, at times seeming distant and withholding. Simultaneously, they are extremely intimate looks into private scenes. I am fascinated by this contradiction and by the duality that exists in every subject.
